It’s fun and very informative.

My wife and I had a great night.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of her present to me. LOL.
Love you baby.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody.

Anthony TIP for the Guys: Don’t forget to do something special today for your girl, dinner, movie, candy, flowers, all of the above. Won’t kill you guys. Remember, your girl WILL be expecting something no matter what she may say. Don’t fall into that trap. Cover your butt.

Anthony TIP for the Girls:  Make sure you show appreciation to your man when he gives you his present. Remember, when a guy goes out of his way to get you something special and there’s thinking involved, if he doesn’t feel it’s appreciated the odds decrease that he will do it again. A simple “you’re the best” coupled with a kiss on the cheek goes a long way. I’m not talking about what you think I’m talking about, get your minds out of the gutter. LOL.

Have fun.

Important advice I’d like to pass along.

ATTORNEY’s ADVICE - NO CHARGE

Not A Joke!! If you dislike attorneys….. You will love them for
these tips.

Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday.  Maybe we should all take some of his advice!

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.

    1.   Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put ‘PHOTO ID REQUIRED.’

    2.   When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the ‘For’ line.      Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows
the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won’t have access to it.

    3.   Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a POBox use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address.  Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary.   But
if you have It printed, anyone can get it.

4..   Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine.  Do both sides of each license,  credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.

I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We’ve all heard horror stories about fraud that’s committed on us in stealing a Name, address, Social Security number, credit cards.

Unfortunately,  I,  an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(S) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA
credit card
, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more.

But here’s some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

   5.   We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately.  But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call.  Keep those where you can find
them.

   6.   File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here’s what is perhaps most important of all:

(I  never even thought to do this..)

   7.   Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number.  I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the
internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves’ purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has
been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in).  It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your let, if it has been stolen:

                 1.) Equifax :                 1-800-525-6285

                  2.) Experian  (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

                 3.) Trans Union :       1-800-680 7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):   1-800-269-0271

We pass along jokes on the Internet; we pass along just about everything..

“Master Your Domain”

Electrical Lesson

3 reasons for knowing the location of your electric main shut off.

1. In case of an electrical fire, you need to shut off the power immediately.

2. If you are repairing or replacing any electrical fixtures in your home and can’t locate the individual breaker, it’s safer to shut off the entire system.

3. You are a home owner. It’s your Domain. You should know where everything is located. If you do have to hire an electrician for something, the first question he’s going to ask is: Where’s your main? Save yourself some embarrassment. Know the answer. It’s all about empowering yourself. Be the Master of Your Domain.

Why is it important to properly GROUND your electrical system?

Electricity will always search for a ground.

Without proper grounding your electrical fixtures will be electrified. Meaning, there will be a constant current running through your fixtures, appliances, and outlets searching for a ground. If anything comes in contact with this current, the current will continue to flow causing electrocution.

When lightning struck Ben Franklin’s kite, it was searching for a ground. If Ben hadn’t tied a key to the string to harness the current creating a ground, he would have been electrocuted.

Rule of thumb, your electrical main should be grounded to a source outside of your home. It is usually connected the cold water feed line or a piece of metal planted into the ground.

You can check this by locating your main electrical supply (outside your house near the electrical meter) and finding where the main panel is grounded. It should be directly below the panel. There will be a number of wires connected to a pipe sticking out of the ground. These wires are not ”hot” or “live” so they are not dangerous to touch. This is a universal building code. There are no exceptions.

Remember:

Mastering your domain will:

Save you money

Save you stress

Save you time

Save you embarrassment

Keep your family safe

and most of all

Empower you

“Master your Domain”

In these times of economic hardship we are forced to take matters into our own hands.

That’s where I come in, I’m Anthony Gilardi, and I will show you how to “Master your Domain”.

Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, handy men, in my opinion are worth there weight in gold.

Unfortunately, they cost almost as much.

But, are they always necessary?

Do you always need to replace your aging appliances with a new one?

Maybe not.

Mastering your domain, is all about EMPOWERING YOURSELF!

Having the knowledge, the correct information.

Making sure you’ve tried every possible “simple problem” before you call in the cavalry.

You’ll save money and a little embarrassment.

Learn from every home problem or mishap, write it down if necessary (example, hey didn‘t that happen two years ago, how did they fix it).

Think of your home as a living breathing organism, the more you get to know it, the better off you’ll be. Communication is the most important thing in a relationship.

Let’s get to know our homes so when a problem comes up, we’re ready.

Spring ahead, don’t fall back. Spring Tips by Anthony Gilardi

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Anthony Gilardi from HGTV’s Myles of Style with:

Ten ways to Spring ahead, and not fall back.

  1. Change the filter in your HVAC (heating, venting and air conditioning) system and dust all vents intake and outlet. I say to do this twice a year after big seasons like winter and summer. Most HVAC systems share the same furnace. A dirty filter can lower the efficiency of the heating/cooling system, increase heating costs and cause fires.
  2. Check your window screens, clean, repair, or replace all screens.
  3. Open all exterior water spickets that may have shut off for the winter and run the water filling a five gallon bucket. This creates good water flow, gets rid of stagnant water in your pipes.
  4. Sweap your chimneys annually, this protects you from fire hazards. I suggest you so this every spring after winter use. I do not recommend doing this yourself. Professional chimney sweeps are decently priced and are properly trained to handle unforeseen problems.
  5. Safety proof around the outside of your home. If you have kids. As you know, they may have grown over the winter. You may have different problems this spring than you did last spring. Check fences for safety, fence off swimming pools, make sure you have strong handrails on all staircases. Get rid of dangerous and hazardous materials.
  6. Check your water heater. If you have a gas-fired water heater, check to make sure it is venting properly. Light a match next to the vent and wave it out (don’t blow it out). See if the smoke is pulled up into the vent. If it isn’t, have a professional inspect and repair it. Otherwise, carbon monoxide and other combustibles can build up in the home. Check around the base of your water heater for evidence of leaks. If your water heater is over 5 years old, it should be checked monthly for any leakage or rusting at the bottom. If water leakage or rust is found, the water heater should be replaced.
  7. Clean the clothes dryer exhaust duct, damper and space under the dryer. Poor maintenance allows lint to build up in the exhaust duct and cause fire.
  8. Make sure the light bulbs in all your fixtures are the correct wattage.         The light fixture manufacturer recommends the correct wattage. If too high a wattage bulb is used in a light fixture, heat produced inside the fixture can lead to fire inside the fixture, ceiling or wall. Correct wattage will be labeled on the fixture.
  9. Clean the kitchen exhaust hood and replace air filters.                                          Keeping this clean of cooking grease will help keep a stovetop fire from spreading.
  10.  Always have a multi-purpose fire extinguisher accessible.                          Make sure it is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed or Factory Mutual (FM) approved. Check the gauges to make sure they are charged and ready to use.
